It’s All About Timing

As mentioned before, I’ve been doing some research on starting up my Etsy business. One aspect I’ve been focusing on is reading and researching Etsy’s “Quit Your Day Job” series. In it, I’ve found a lot of great advice, and some of the advice repeats itself often. With all of the empty pockets and empty bank accounts the holidays have caused, and the crazy work schedule that is necessary to catch up financially, I have been really focusing on two specific pieces of advice I often see on QYDJ: Make sure to have enough money saved up and prepared for a transition into building a new business, and finally to be prepared, not just financially, but mentally, emotionally, inventory-wise, and knowledge-wise. I am neither of these at the moment, so I’ve decided to put my Etsy business on hold.

I can make the last part work, I’m really looking into SEO (how your products and Etsy page get found) and how to use tags, descriptions and what not. I’m still learning how to take awesome pictures but I’m not quite there yet. The most important part, that made me come to the decision of putting my Etsy business on hold, is the financial aspect. I am not financially prepared to take on a new venture like this one, and I do not think I can be successful at it if I am not ready for it.

In the meantime however, I will be focusing on this blog, and slowly building my inventory. I now know what I want with my label and my company and I know where I want it to go, so that helps me in the meantime. I will also work on my photography skills and more research so that when I do finally launch my business I will hit the floor running.

So get ready to see some tutorials, maybe some new information I find in my research, and status updates on new inventory projects.
